Reader Questions for 4/9/2014

Every once in a while I like to collect questions from readers and answer them right here. It’s an easy blog post to write and most people seem to find these useful. Enjoy the information and feel free to leave a comment if you have any casino-related questions.

How old do you have to be to gamble in Nevada?

The legal gambling age in Nevada is 21. You must be 21 years old to gamble or to even hang around in the gambling area in Nevada casinos. There are no casinos in Nevada that allow 18 year olds to partake in gambling.

People under 21 years old can walk through the casino area if they need to get to another area such as a hotel or restaurant, but they can’t linger around. If you’re under 21 in Nevada, you need to keep moving as you pass through the casino.

The same age rule also applies to online poker sites in Nevada. And in states that now have legal online gambling sites, you must be 21 and up to play. In short, you need to be 21 to do any kind of real money gambling in the US.

What about Indian / Tribal Casinos?

There are numerous Indian casinos in the United States that let gamblers in at 18. However, there are no tribal casinos in Nevada. Also, make sure you check the rules before you visit an Indian casino elsewhere. The rules can change from one location to the next.

Can I make money with casino bonuses?

You canmake money with casino bonuses, but it’s not guaranteed. Casino bonuses are not free money giveaways. Online casino bonuses always come with wagering requirements in which you have to risk a certain amount of money before the bonus money is released. Sometimes you’ll come out ahead, other times you’ll end up losing money.

Every once in a while, you’ll find a deposit bonus with favorable terms. In these rare cases, winning is all but guaranteed. For example, Lucky Red Casino offered a $400 low rollover bonus not too long ago. You only had to wager a few bucks to clear the entire bonus. The only problem with these deals is that they don’t come around very often.

Look at casino bonuses as a nice perk for playing online. The odds of winning money don’t really change anything. You might win, you might not. There are better ways to make money online if that’s what you want. Gambling should always be viewed as a recreational activity.
